World Oceans Day 2023: Theme, History, and Importance

Every year on June 8, the world celebrates World Oceans Day to increase public awareness about the importance of oceans and the importance of maintaining and safeguarding marine resources.

World Oceans Day is a timely reminder to identify and value the oceans' role in our lives, from providing food to regulating and supporting biodiversity and the climate.

For many years, humans have been plundering the waters. Pollution, the degradation of aquatic habitats, overfishing, and ocean acidification are all well-known examples of exploitation.

The purpose of World Oceans Day is to reduce irresponsible ocean exploitation and to put in place long-term ocean protection measures. Several measures, like the elimination of plastics, the adoption of strong environmental policies, and the implementation of rules and regulations to support sustainable seafood choices, are successful approaches to protecting precious natural resources such as seas.

History of World Oceans Day

The concept of a global ocean day was first proposed by the Canadian government in 1992 at the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit. Because the notion was broadly accepted and welcomed by delegates, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 8 to be World Oceans Day.

Theme for World Oceans Day in 2023

Every year, World Oceans Day is commemorated with a new theme. This year's World Oceans Day theme is "Planet Ocean: The Tides are Changing."

World Oceans Day's Importance

Every year, World Oceans Day is commemorated to promote practical actions and initiatives for the preservation of marine ecosystems, the adoption of sustainable fishing practises, the reduction of ocean pollution, and other important ocean-related issues.

Every year on World Oceans Day, governments and non-governmental groups organise activities, seminars, educational workshops, and events to raise awareness about the negative effects of ocean exploitation.

Over the years, World Oceans Day has gained in popularity on a global basis. It provides a venue for citizens to raise awareness about the importance of oceans in the preservation of life on Earth and to take action to protect these vital natural resources for future generations.

Water is not the best hydrating beverage. Do you know why?

Water isn't the best hydration drink, according to the conclusions of a 2016 study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, at least in terms of long-term physiological fluid balance. The solution, which may surprise you, is milk. Even when the intrinsic water content of the drink is taken into account, both skim and whole milk can be more hydrating than still water. Hydration is distinguished not only by fluid balance, but also by retention, which indicates that the advantages of the beverage are not lost quickly due to pee. Milk contains nutrients like fat, lactose (or milk sugar), and sodium (or salt) that help it stay in the body longer and provide more hydration. Sodium is the most common electrolyte in the body, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Electrolytes are extremely important in maintaining body fluid balance. The St. Andrews University School of Medicine in Scotland researchers conducted studies to develop a beverage hydration index. The study comprise...
